Bell, Book and Candle

Bell, Book and Candle

by John Van Druten

24-28 November 2015

Gillian Holroyd is unusual amongst her contemporaries; she can actually perform magic feats. She casts a spell over an unattached publisher, Shepherd Henderson, partly to keep him away from a rival and partly because she is attracted to him.

He falls head over heels in love with her at once and wants to marry her. What she has forgotten is that witches, unfortunately, cannot fall in love.

The resolution of this problem gives rise to the famous US romantic comedy, which was also a celebrated film starring James Stewart, Kim Novak and Jack Lemmon.
